What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)?
DBT is an evidence-based therapy that uses cognitive behavior therapy, acceptance therapy, contemplative tools (Mindfulness), skill building, and dialectics to treat mental health issues and help individuals create a life worth living. It was developed by Marsha Linehan to treat Borderline Personality Disorder and has been shown to effectively treat most psychological disorders.

What is my approach?
I work with individuals and couples in 50-minute sessions. After discussing and agreeing on your treatment goals, we will identify skills and cognitive tools that will help you reach your goals. Sessions will include mindfulness practice, skill practice, and homework assignments that address your specific needs. You will also have an opportunity to enrol in DBT skills groups to learn and develop new skills.

How long have I been practicing?
I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over 24 years. I have specialized in DBT for the last 15 years and have used DBT to successfully help individuals and couples with a range of issues, including trauma, anxiety, emotion regulation, conflicted relationships, poor impulse control, and change-of-life challenges.

What does a typical session with me look like?

Do I offer Couple's Counseling?
Yes. I have extensive experience working with couples. DBT is a great foundation for navigating partner dynamics through the use of relationship skills, dialectics, and problem-solving.
