What is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach that combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and skill-building techniques to help individuals manage emotions, improve relationships, and create a life worth living. Originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), DBT has since been proven effective treatment for a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, emotional regulation, and relationship issues.

DBT focuses on four key areas: Mindfulness (staying present and aware), Distress Tolerance (handling tough emotions without making things worse), Emotion Regulation (understanding and managing feelings), and Interpersonal effectiveness (improving communication and setting healthy boundaries). By integrating these skills into daily life, DBT can help you build resilience, navigate challenges with greater effectiveness, and develop lasting emotional well-being.
