About me.

I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience providing mental health services to a diverse population. After earning my degrees from UCLA and Pepperdine University, I worked in child welfare, drug treatment, divorce mediation, and the juvenile justice system, where I specialized in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness-based interventions. I played a key role in the development of the “LA Model” for juvenile rehabilitation at Campus Kilpatrick and have provided DBT training and consultation nationwide.

Now, in private practice, I work with individuals and couples, helping them navigate mental health and relationship challenges using DBT and mindfulness techniques. My goal is to empower clients to build fulfilling, meaningful lives.

Bruce Bates, LMFT

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, but I do my best to make the process as approachable as possible. My goal is to create a space where you feel supported, understood, and at ease.

In our sessions, we’ll work together to identify your goals and explore DBT skills that can help you meet these goals with confidence. These aren’t just quick fixes; they’re tools you can carry with you throughout your lifetime that will enable you to cope with whatever life throws your way.
